You can get the Best Dog Toys money can buy and the hottest new toy but what will your puppy choose. I know we have toys laying all over the house and step over them constantly. Yes Rocky does play with them but like kids he can find the darnedest things sometimes to play with.

 

He spent days going out side and would pass by his toys to want a bottom for a clay flower pot. I know you say get him a Frisbee since this is similar he might like that. Well he has a Frisbee and enjoys playing with it but it is very funny how they can take something and decide it is the bset to to play with.

It is great though to see how their thinking process goes and always on the look out for that interesting thing that gets there attention. Just to show they enjoy thinking about not only how to get into trouble next but to also occupy there time with play and exercise.

Sometimes our dogs and puppies will find great toys or what they think are toys to play with. Sometimes they are good things and sometimes not so good so we must over see what they are plating with at all times. The one thing for sure Kong makes some wondeful toys and will keep out puppies and dogs busy for some time and safe.

When we really want and need some quiet time for all and yes we all need this from time to time or how else will anything get done. Best Toys I have found for this is Kong. Great way to get some quiet time! We don’t have this particular Kong Genius but have one real similar. Stick a favorite treat inside, which for Rocky is usually cheese and this will keep him busy and quiet for some time. Our Cairn Terrier Having Birthday, yes he is about to turn one year old. Some of you may have read where we did not get Rocky till he was 8 months old. It is hard to believe that we have only had him in our family for 4 months, it seems like years. He has taught us so much and we have even taught him a few things!

If you do not know much about the Cairn breed they are a wonderful breed full of energy and a need to know. Need to know what will get them in trouble. The one the thing we did with This First Puppy was do our homework. We did not just wake up one morning and say we were going to get a Cairn Terrier. It was one afternoon that I suggested maybe we should think about getting a puppy. We had thought this out a few years back and decided it would not be the right thing to do.

Why was this day different than a few years ago? There were actually a couple things and one was we were interested in dog shows and what better interest can you have than have a dog that you will show. Some people get a dog and have someone do everything for them for show but that was not what we wanted. We wanted to train and show the dog our self and this way be able to enjoy a our dog totally. I said 2 things and the other was we had taken several little get a way trips and on one of these we say more and more people sharing the trip with there dogs and places accepting this.

Now we have everything solved that was pretty much in the way of getting a dog. We wanted to be able to take little get aways and not have to worry about the dog. Now we feel very comfortable taking him with us on these little get aways. Problem solved and since this was solved it opened up that we could proceed with our dream of doing dog shows. So we did some homework and breed searching and eventually we settled in on a cairn Terrier. We have no way of comparing but we are certainly happy with our choice and have our beautiful Rocky who is also preparing for shows.

Just remember breeds are different and some are very energetic and some less. Some like kids more and some don’t! Some are multi person dog and some are more a one person dog. So though a Cairn did fit us I am sure this breed would not fit all so just make sure you do hour home work and get Puppy Tips.

 

What better way than to relax and watch what is going on outside on a Sunday morning. Rocky had his early morning walk, did a little show training and had his breakfast. While some are getting ready to settle in and watch football on Sunday Rocky is ready to relax a bit in his favorite chair out on the lanai.

Usually this is not a long relaxation period as if there is anything that he feels he might be missing out on he will be up and about checking it out. Who knows there might be cooking in the kitchen to over see or Marta the Pershing cat might be doing something that looks like something he needs to know about. For now he is relaxing and long enough to even get a picture.

Today we took a little road trip to Florida Classic in Brooksville, Florida. This trip we took Rocky along for him to be able to check out what is going on and he did really well. The trip up he had his anxiety but still did well and when we got to the show it was a little overwhelming to him at first and showed a little anxiety at first. We had taken a walk back to the car to get Elena’s sunglasses and when we went back up he was very good and no anxiety and started enjoying himself checking all the dogs out. This was very new seeing all these not only small dogs but these huge animals that were very new to him but he really did not show any fear. He met Tesa a little Cairn female and they played a little and he really enjoyed this even for this short period. Elena walk him all around and he was able to check out lots and lots of ground. About the only time he got a little scared we were walking out and there was a big dog under some cover that we did not see and he let out a big bark and Rocky and Elena jumped and so I think he still did well. As we figured he was enjoying this so much that he didn’t want to get in the car and go home. We actually had to pick him up so he would get in the car and the 2 hour trip home he did very well and showed probably the least anxiety that he has ever shown in the car. It was a very good field trip for all of use and when we got home Rocky was happy to be home and he really seemed to show that he had a good time. I am sure he will enjoy the next trip!

Dog food to me is a very important and just about the first big decision you will be making when you bring your puppy or dog home. This is something that you can ask around to other dog owners what they use and who you get your dog from will recommend something also. These recommendations are fine but you should never just make your decision on this information. Do your own homework and with internet today and Google now doing your homework is easy. Start checking the ingredients that is in the dog food you are thinking about.

For Rocky we decided on Blue Buffalo and yes they did have a recall a while back but this problem has been taken care of and shouldn’t be a reason not to use it. Many products go through recalls even baby food but we still buy those products. Rocky is a Cairn Terrier and very active and we went with Blue Buffalo Wilderness in the Salmon recipe. Rocky loves it but then again he loves food!

Blue Buffalo is a Holistic food which we like and would look for in any food that we used. Choosing a dog food is very important to maintain over all health, energy level, good coat and more. Do not just go by what someone suggest as you have to realize even your Vet may be influenced by salesman selling there product and breeders could be the same way. Do your homework for your dog yourself as there are a lot of food out there that is like fast food a little fattening. Make the decision based on your homework and there is nothing to say you can not even switch later if you feel you discovered something better. We took some time yesterday and went to the Florida Classic Dog Show so we could check out the Cairns being shown. There we several people there showing that we have gotten to know over the short periods of time we have been going to shows. There was lots of activity and certainly a lot of beautiful dogs roaming around the grounds. If you have a favorite breed you will certainly find it there. There Cairns were a lot of fun to watch there were a few young pups there competing in some of there first few shows and you could see that it was still early in there training and being in competition but they were out there trying. Cairns are a wonderful breed and you can find them in all different colors and to me this add to there beauty.
While there we did learn some new things to incorporate in Rocky’s training learned some new tricks for grooming for show. If all goes well as we are waiting for Rocky’s coat to grow in more, continue some training and just get him comfortable in the car for trips he will begin in the summer and be ready for fall Florida shows.
We plan on going back to the Classic Friday and tale Rocky for him to get a good car ride and see how he does and also walk among the many dogs and see how he does. We are sure he will be OK but he needs to be around more dogs so he can get comfortable when being at the shows. Then again he will spend most of the time in crate up to his time in the ring but will probably let him walk around after his show is over.

Rocky has car sickness and anxiety when traveling in the car. Then all of a sudden one day he decided he didn’t even like to be close to the car even when outside the car. He would be so frightened he would make sure he stayed clear of it. Working with him with clicker training to see if can help him get over this. So far just in one day he has improved getting around the car and will even jump in the car and out himself. Will keep you posted on his improvement and hopefully easing his anxiety.
